After last night’s embarrassing 5-3 loss against Vegas, the Aves need to do a lot of cleaning up.
With McKinnon taking a puck to the knee and the possibility that he may have to sit out game 4 or be unable to play to the best of his ability, many players will need to step up and be the facilitator. Yes, we have Makar back, and he played great, but there needs to be more on defense, and offensively, they just need to take the shot.
Last night, they spent too much time trying to set up the perfect shot, which led the Aves to have a shot drought for over 12 minutes in the third period. This took away pressure and the chance of a shot going in.
Last night’s issue was a matter of offense: not being consistent and not getting the right shots. The way they played was unequivocally messy, and for them to be able to win, they need to rein everything back in.
This is not the same Aves team that we have seen this entire season. They are playing very mediocre, and we need them to be exceptional, just like they have been the past two series and the entire regular season.
Overall, here is what the Aves need to make a comeback:
They need to play a consistent offense; Wedgewood needs to continue to play as great as he has been playing this entire playoff run; their defense needs to tighten up; and finally, the players need to lift their morale and come into game 4 with hope, because at this point, all we can do is hope for the best possible outcome.
